VCAL

Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning

About VCAL

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a full time, community-based, educational alternative providing a Year 11/12 qualification. It is an integrated program of applied learning and practical experiences for students between 16 and 20 years old. Like the VCE, VCAL is a recognised senior qualification. Unlike the VCE, which is widely used by students as a pathway to university, VCAL focusses on 'hands on learning'. Students who attend VCAL are more likely to be interested in going on to do an apprenticeship, or get a job.

VCAL has the flexibility to enable students to study in a program that suits their interests and learning needs. As part of the program students complete selected accredited VCE and Vocational Education and Training (VET) modules within the following four compulsory strands:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Skills
  • Work Related Skills (work experience)
  • Industry Specific Skills (VET course)
  • Personal Development Skills

Community VCAL is proudly presented by Advance in partnership with local Secondary Colleges, the Frankston Mornington Peninsula Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) and the local community.

Advance's VCAL is delivered at three sites across the Mornington Peninsula:

  • Mornington
  • Rosebud
  • Hastings

Advance's VCAL also has a distance learning option for student with access difficulties.
